We Aim To Become The First Company In India To Manufacture Solar-Grade Silicon Wafers Domestically

20 January 2026The Economic Times

In an interview with Electronics For You, Rajasekar Elavarasan shares Raana Semiconductors' vision to become India's first private company manufacturing solar-grade Silicon wafers domestically.

Building India's Crystal Future

Raana Semiconductors is positioning itself as a pioneering player in Silicon wafer fabrication, leveraging proprietary Czochralski crystal growth techniques and multiple patents in Silicon wafer manufacturing.

The company's focus on domestic production of solar-grade Silicon wafers addresses a critical gap in India's semiconductor supply chain - one that has long been dependent on imports from China, the US, and Russia.

The $3M Milestone

With its recent $3M seed funding round, Raana is scaling up its crystal growth capacity and building the infrastructure needed to bring solar-grade Silicon wafer production to India for the first time.

The funding, led by Equirus Innovatex and Artha Ventures with participation from IvyCap, PointOne, IIMA, and Garimala, validates the deep-tech approach the company is taking to solve one of India's most fundamental semiconductor challenges.
