RSPL incubated at BARC Atal Incubation Centre for indigenous Germanium single crystal growth

Raana Semiconductors Private Limited (RSPL) has been formally selected for incubation at the BARC Atal Incubation Centre (BAIC), Mumbai - one of India's most prestigious deep-tech incubation programmes under the Department of Atomic Energy.
About BARC Atal Incubation Centre
The BARC Atal Incubation Centre supports startups working at the frontier of nuclear science, materials technology, and advanced manufacturing. Being selected gives RSPL access to BARC's world-class crystal growth research facilities and collaborative expertise.
What RSPL Gains from This Incubation
This incubation is a direct recognition of RSPL's work in indigenously growing Germanium single crystals - a material critical to India's defence electronics and infrared optics supply chain. Under this programme, RSPL will:
- Develop Germanium crystal growth for infrared detector substrates
- Work towards technology transfer and commercialisation
Why Germanium Is Critical to India
Germanium is classified as a critical mineral by the Indian government. Global export restrictions have effectively halted the import of Germanium into India - cutting off access to a material that is irreplaceable in defence optics. Every FLIR system, night vision goggle, and infrared optical assembly in India's defence arsenal depends on Germanium lenses and windows. Without a domestic source, India's ability to manufacture and maintain thermal imaging and night vision equipment for its armed forces is directly at risk. Indigenous Germanium crystal growth is no longer a long-term goal - it is an immediate national security imperative.
