RSPL signs Technology Transfer MOU with BARC Crystal Technology Lab, Mumbai
Raana Semiconductors Private Limited (RSPL) has formalised a Technology Transfer Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Crystal Technology Lab (CTL) at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai.
Significance of the MOU
BARC's Crystal Technology Lab has been at the forefront of crystal growth research in India for over four decades. This MOU enables RSPL to:
- Access and commercialise BARC's proprietary crystal growth processes
- Co-develop next-generation growth techniques for defence and photonics applications
- License know-how for scintillation crystals used in nuclear instrumentation
Crystals Covered
The MOU spans multiple crystal systems of national strategic importance:
- Silicon - semiconductor substrates
- Nd:YAG - solid-state laser gain media
- Bismuth Germanate (BGO) - gamma-ray scintillators
- Lithium Fluoride - radiation dosimetry
Next Steps
Joint working groups between RSPL and BARC CTL have been constituted to define the technology transfer roadmap. The programme is expected to result in the first set of commercially available BARC-licensed crystal products within 18 months.
